Dermond Peterson

seapillows.jpg
For those who may not have noticed, i’ve been writing Surface - the CNET design blog on their new blog network on the side. I was writing about these Dermond Peterson pillows over there earlier today, and was so smitten by them i had to share them here as well. Founded by two sisters in 2001, Dermond Peterson has a great seaside line this season with hand printed aquatic creatures and motifs… i’m particularly craving the black octopus… isn’t it so very NOTCOT?

Diesel Human After All

dieselhumanmain.jpg
Perhaps the most honest or realistic portrayal of the future of humanity… by our brutally/cheekily honest Diesel campaign of the season: Human After All. They have hit on some of the underlying oh so human things that probably wont change… (if history has anything to say about it)… like the boyf/girlf fights with clothes being thrown out of an apt, flight delays, balls breaking things they shouldn’t, pancakes sticking to the ceiling, cars breaking down, and of course… (wtf?) putting ikea furniture together? Well, personally i hope that ikea retires that terrible coffee table by the future (i think ive known too many people with that table!). (thanks, alex)

NotCouture in Newsweek

newsweekmain.jpg
NotCouture in the July 16, 2007 Newsweek. Featured on the Checklist of The Tip Sheet, Newsweek says “SURF notcouture.com. Submit posts to this design-centric fashion Web site where editors pick the most stylish products for public viewing and voting and, of course, buying.”

We’re all really excited about this mention, and big thanks to all the readers who sent it in, and an extra big thanks to Victoria for sending me these scans (especially since i’ve been having a bit of trouble tracking down this issue!). We’re especially flattered to have this mention, since we’re still in beta, and the official launch (with goodies to go with) will be July 30th for NotCouture.

Forever Young

marbleweights.jpg
Forever Young by Robert Stadler - 3 and 5 kg dumb-bells in Carrara marble. I just saw these over at Sub Studio, and desperately want some. Don’t they bring out your inner Flintstone? Couldn’t you see Betty and Wilma working out with these, while a dino-bird instructs them how to use them in their TV? Also i was actually at the Carrara marble quary! Way back in ‘02, and these made me think of that fun trip seeing the enormous slabs of marble, and the incredible sculptors in the area.

Grapple Coat Rack

hookrack.jpg
Design Milk featured these Grapple Coat Hooks… and i’m… well, hooked! Grapple Hook Coat Rack is by Ryan Frank, and available over at Bouf, which is apparently a sleek online store that sounds like a filtered/edited higher end etsy? [Sounds like the NOTCOT.org approach to having a store… love their products over there… if they like what you have, you too can sell there!]

Logitech MX Air Mouse

airmouse.jpg
Apparently the latest drool worthy design gadget from Logitech is the MX Air Mouse, which Engadget describes as their “attempt to bridge the gap between mouse and remote control with a touch-sensitive scroll-panel (instead of a scroll wheel) and a dedicated pause/play and volume control.” You can apparently push the volume button and then flick the mouse to t he left or right to increase and decrease volume! So gorgeous, dying to play with one! This RF goodie is set to retail around $150 in August.

Delight-ful Surprise

delightbox.jpg
The ladies of Delight.com sent over a fun surprise package that really brightened up my weekend ~ and that was before i even got to seeing what was inside (but more pics of unboxing and goodies below). For those who don’t know, Delight.com is an online shopping destination that announces a new product each day at lunch (noon central time) and keeps it in the store up to 30 days (when its gone. its gone!).

What i didn’t know until this package showed up was how impressive their gift wrap was ~ certainly a joy to open (and if you don’t get gift wrap, you still get the exciting burst of tissue paper and shopping list sticky notes!). Bookmark this one for quick gifts that are sure to impress. That being said ~ go see a sneak peek of Thursday and Friday’s black and white goodies that were in the box after the jump.

Limited Ed Email

iphoneemail.jpg
On strange cryptic emails, here’s a new one. Apparently i was *lucky* enough to receive number 442/500 (yay i made the top 500 of some list?) of Limited Edition Emails from Multi@MultiPolarProjects.com. Being lazy and confused by all of this, instead of following the precise framing descriptions, lets visualize and pretend the iphone is my shadowbox… This thing came with an invoice email as well… (read it below)… and thank goodness mine came “PAID (Compliments of the artist)” because this “Media: Variable depending on the buyer” goes for a whopping $1,000 USD - but luckily they say: “We will verify Edition Number & Purchaser for ebay and auction house sales.” I hope i didn’t destroy its value by spreading the sarcasm to all of you! Since, “You may only print out ONE copy. If you make multiple prints, your edition will then be revoked.”

Also, i’d like to take this chance to say… this email is awesome because it gave me something fun to do with my iPhone before i go return it tomorrow or weds. I may try again once updates come out, and things become a bit more useable for my day to day life. But don’t get me wrong its a great ipod with fancy email and web browsing, and zooming in and out is far too fun (as is wasting more time watching youtubes than i ever did on a computer).

Carrie

mariecarrie.jpg
Design House Stockholm produced Marie-Louise Gustaffsson’s Carrie, which comes in a bike model and a shopping basket model and hit store shelves around April apparently, but i finally encountered it in person today… and couldn’t resist, and bought a white shopping basket (not being a biker). I’ve long admired Gustaffsson’s work, her slacker chair (remember the bean bag office chair?) as well as her Table of Trash (images of both below incase you’ve forgotten). I also have great respect for the quality and simple beauty of products from Design House Stockholm, and how much they embrace young designers.

The Carrie basket has been written about greatly ~ but getting hands on with the baskets themselves (and having one on my desk as i write this) ~ made it worthy of a post. I found the green bike basket and white shopping basket over at Zinc Details, which unfortunately is slow to update their online store. More thoughts (read: gushing about the bike model i didn’t buy) and images below.

Playground

playground.jpg
Playground ~ is it a magazine? is it art? is it a dripping rubber box? Apparently it “is an unbound collection of fashion + art in exclusive numbered limited editions”… “is a means for free, spontaneous plays between famous and emerging artists, fashion photographers and illustrators from all over the world”… “is not a magazine, but a personal gallery encrusted in custom designed collectible box.” SO, there you have it, it explains everything and nothing?

However, the launch party will be at Anna Kustera in NY tomorrow night, so maybe someone can go take a peek for us and shed some light on what’s really inside that white Dror Benshetrit box that “characterizes the movement of liquid dripping in a tactile and plastic form”. There are only 250 sets, and they are $600… and there is quite the list of who’s who thats part of the secrets in the box!

Video Bulb

videobulbmain.jpg
Video Bulb - it’s described like a lipstick tube that you plug into your RCA jack on your tv… and along runs this black and white pixel movie of BITMAN! Apparently great for parties, and a fun screensaver for your plasma? Relatively simple, just a really cute idea, and although CoolHunting had it back in ‘05 ~ i just rediscovered it and love the packaging (see below) and also found a youtube of what you’d get on it (also below!).
