Climate Confusion Assistance

blesshammock.jpg
On different takes on weather changes… German Bless’ No 28 adresses Climate Confusion Assistance through a line of products including this Coyote Hammock (which is really terrible, but visually mesmerizing - so make a faux one!), a hammock that resembles a couch, jogging pants with fishing nets, “ring gloves” (just the finger tips of gloves), scribbly pins and more.

RedStart Design

redStartJewelry.jpg Remember the “Subtle Safety Ring” by RedStart? It’s the ring that folds out into a brass knuckle-like formation. I saw it awhile back and wanted it so badly but never got around to actually buying it. Well now the ladies at the San Francisco-based jewelry design company have a new version of the ring that’s part silver, part red acrylic, and I have to say I’m a little tempted to get it even though it doesn’t appear to fold out. (I can’t seem to find the all silver version anymore and I wonder if it’s because of laws about brass knuckles..?) This ring ranks very high up there on my list of jewelry that has a dangerous side. They also have a sweet collection of jewelry called the Bone Series whose pieces “call attention to the body, its curves and bones.” I love the bracelet!

Gaultier Hats

gaultierhats.gif
Fashionline’s covered the Paris shows, and Jean Paul Gaultier’s line caught my eye in particular. Well his hat hair more than anything. Yes, terrible pun, but how can anyone resist… top hats are one thing, crazy hair is another - but this takes it to a creative level even the mad hatter in alice in wonderland doesn’t seem capable of pulling off. I’m not sure if i’m impressed or horrified, but there’s something rather mesmerizing about that hair (and i can’t help but wonder if there’s a real hat in there somewhere)… and that Christine Suppes managed to avoid mentioning it in the write up.

O Plus D Party

opdmain.jpg
Remember my obsession with O Plus D (if not, you simply MUST go see here)~ Well their designer, Olga Krigman, threw a little holiday sale/gathering at La Dita in Echo Park last night, and it was more like a mini gallery showing of all the cards up on the walls. Each and every one even more fun to see and read in person (gorgeous rounded edges and printed on great card stock!) Pics below ~ And if you haven’t stocked up on holiday cards yet, this is the ONLY way to go. Well, they are the best i’ve seen around anyhow!

Cotton to Canvas

oddthinkmain.jpg
Last night was gallery hopping night, and landed at ThinkSpace in SilverLake for most of the night hanging out with Olga Nunes + Sarah Coleman (of FABULIST fame! You know you read it, its too fab not to) ~ for Oddica’s big two day show “Cotton to Canvas” ~ brilliant concept, see if you can follow this logic - Oddica has artists create limited edition shirts, then gives the shirts to OTHER oddica artists to design traditional pieces inspired by the shirts - and who knows maybe some of these new pieces will make it full circle and become shirts too! MANY pictures of my favorites below~ and some randoms to give you a feel for the ambiance.

The Art of Chase

artofchase.jpg
Most refreshing find at the Shop LA event today was Belgian Street Art transplant (now a Culver City kid) - Chase. From stencil art, to paintings, to shirts, and collabs with everyone from Puma, Adidas, Levis, etc - odds are you’ve seen his murals around ~ At the event he was showing off his stencil paintings (and his funky teeth that guarantee to make you smile - see below), which have an impressively motivational 60’s/pop/stencil vibe going on, some of my favorites above and more below… See more over at the Art of Chase, and these smaller canvases could make great gifts for the hard to shop for, or last minute parties.

It’s that time of year ~

genartbildolba.jpg
Today was my first real day off from *life* in months. So please excuse the posting lull! Been overworking (on everything) ~ its been a mix between extremely fun and total chaos… and i must confess that i’m turning the ripe old age of 24 next week, and in LA with every birthday (for me) comes sample sale season to ease the pain… so this weekend and next weekend are sprinkled with sample sales large and small… and the best of the best this year? GenArt teaming up with Billion Dollar Babes for the Shop LA Event VIP this afternoon - filling a whole Santa Monica Airport Hangar with clothes, jewelry, communal changing rooms, leather purses, art, and flowing champagne. On a less civilized note, tomorrow’s James Perse sale is at 9am…

NOTCOT.ORG #027

org027.jpg
This week’s .org round up consists of: 2307 (knitting needle bracelets), 2301 (monster xmas stockings), 2297 (transit token necklaces), 2300 (fleece dog), 2283 (metal stone tiles)… RUGenius says “As we move away from stale design, its hard not to feel a bit of nostalgia for tradition. this week lots of your picks have been janus-faced, looking forward to the frontiers of design while also hearkening back to tradition.”

Shame on Target

targetwaste.jpg
Veering slightly from our regularly scheduled content - WTF? I am appalled, outraged, and amazed. My order of Tord Boontje bowls and dessert plates from target (yes i placed that order like a month ago)… not only aren’t here yet… well not the plates… but the bowls just woke me up this morning, and can you BELIEVE the SIZE of that box, or the amount of cardboard and paper i was sent? The bowls are like cereal bowls to give you some perspective. That big box is almost the size of the Think chair box. So as designer friendly as they may be, minimizing waste doesn’t seem to be so high on the list. I needed to vent, since Target made me feel dirty after all my eco happy posts last night.

If you don’t preserve nature by switching off your computer, who will?

The Publicis Counseil did an incredible ad campaign for EDF. Incredible submission, i can’t get over the photography or the message… view all four ads in full below (click to view larger).

Think! Review

think-main.jpg
Every web bubble need its chair. It’s a new bubble and web 2.0 is more eco conscious ~ and the chair to have is now the Steelcase Think! (it’s 99% recyclable) Round one had the Aeron Chair (and proof that their time has passed is the number of them you can find on SFC Craigslist being liquidated at any given time).

While an overabundance of options were prevalent back then, we’re into streamlining, flexibility, and focusing on the needs of users. [i have been trained by past colleagues not to even begin messing with their aeron settings- its worse than touching someones car seat adjustments before saved settings.] It’s been about a week now, and the Think has changed my back… you can only imagine how many hours i am at a computer when not running around… and being an obsessive on aesthetics - gorgeous and ergonomic basically used to equal that “other” chair i promise not to mention in this article anymore. So my recommendation this year for the backs of your computer-tethered friends, THINK! (The name is great, others in the line are Leap and Scoop)

My favorite aspects of this chair (other than that i love the way it looks in person even MORE than in a picture, so go find a showroom and go poke, prod, and bounce on it) ~ are the seat and back “flexors” (the silver rods you see in the center skeleton pic up there) they make it ridiculously comfortable since they give to your every move, and not too much or too little, but just enough. AND i’m the kind of 5’4” girl who likes to sit cross legged every now and then, and with the shape of the seat i can do so without feeling like i’m possibly going to flip over (not all super ergo chairs handle this well). See below for images of the unboxing, more pictures, and more about this designer masterpiece.
