Thanks to Veuve Clicquot, i’m currently curled up on a cloud of a bed here in Paris after a beautiful flight from LA today! Left around 3:45pm got in to Paris around 11am ~ and in between? headed up past vegas/salt lake/etc through canada over greenland/iceland/uk and ended up in paris… and so many gorgeous views… lots of dramatically lit mountains, even flew over some pretty crazy fires, gorgeous scottish/british countryside, french coast… and glowingly red clouds… nothing like a flight to remind you how little all your emails and errands and life is ~ floating above the clouds really throws things back in perspective! Take a peek at some of my favorite views in this latest addition to Operation Window Seat on the next page!

An amazing gallery exhibition opened up in NY and since i couldn’t make it over ~ my awesome friend, Anna Corpron of Sub-Studio was willing to go be my eyes over there! She’s back with incredible pics of the Gagosian Gallery’s ‘Transport’ a thematic exhibition by Marc Newson that brings together all of his major designs and realized products for transport and human locomotion since 1999 for the first time in one space! I have a sudden urge to window paint. Amazing images just came over from Jodie of aussie artist, Anthony Lister, painting the Standard New York store window! In addition to this really fun piece ~ Anthony Lister has made mini-masks, shields and swords which will be on sale at The Standard shop- each as individual pieces of art (acrylic on wood, signed and numbered by artist). The real fun… the making of the painting! See more pics on the next page!

if you see or experience something you want to share with us ~ feel free to email pics/info to press-at-notcot-dot-com!

Being a food focused kind of day with Tasteologie launch ~ seemed only appropriate to share some fun food related inspiration! And as far as inspiring kitchen design goes, The Museum of Modern Art’s Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen exhibition ~ is incredible! It “examines the kitchen and its continual redesign as a barometer of changing aesthetics, technologies, and ideologies… exploring the twentieth-century transformation of the kitchen and highlights MoMA’s recent acquisition of an unusually complete example of the iconic “Frankfurt Kitchen,” designed in 1926-27 by the architect Grete Schütte-Lihotzky. Featured alongside the Frankfurt Kitchen is a 1968 mobile fold-out unit manufactured by the Italian company Snaidero. These two complete kitchens are complemented by a wide variety of design objects, architectural plans, posters, archival photographs, and selected artworks, all drawn from MoMA’s collection.” They are truly stunning, and the design objects to be found within them can’t be missed! See previews of the exhibition on the next page!

It’s here! It’s finally here! I’m so excited, it feels like christmas morning. That giddiness and nervousness officially showing you guys a project we’ve been quietly preparing for some time now… Tasteologie! It’s been a while since we’ve done food properly, and with so many amazing culinary inspirations surfacing across the sites ~ and getting more fascinated by where our food comes from as well as impressive kitchen gadgetry and incredible edible experiences… it was clear we needed to bring back a section dedicated to food here in the NotEmpire!
So take a look at it here ~ Tasteologie!
You can also follow along on Twitter… and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments! As usual, this is a Curated User Submissions site ~ just like NOTCOT.org, NotCouture, and Liqurious ~ so you can submit a post, and our editors go through and clean them up and arrange them to create the inspiring front pages!
Quick shout out to the amazing folks at American Express - particularly the new Zync card! - for being SO supportive of NOTCOT getting back into the culinary side of life! They are definitely a dream partner in launching this, and honestly, i ADORE the ads and the new Zync card design! See the ads over at Tasteologie, they are gorgeous! So, thank you, amex!!!

Dyson Pedestal Fan (Air Multiplier) ~ Freshly arrived from the land of Dyson ~ my first impression ~ AMAZING. While the first of the line was the desk fan (remember how awesome the launch was?), the pedestal is my favorite right now! Far quieter than the desk fan on low modes, but it feels like quite a bit more air circulating. But the best part? The design details you have to play with in person! The curved remote ~ that magnetically attaches to the top of the fan! The robotic feeling hinge to til the fan ring…. and to adjust the height? Simply lift! Or push down! And of course it swivels too… (Side note: Ok, don’t laugh, but i’ve named mine Watson. Every time see it, it makes me think of a magnifying glass, which makes me think of Sherlock Holmes, and somehow that lead me to Watson. It’s just what pops into my head when i see it!) Also, it’s so sculptural yet minimalist, it blends into a room, while still being a bizarrely intriguing object to everyone that has come by! Also, with both fans, anytime someone comes over and either is on… they still stand in front of it mesmerized and stick their hand inside it… have you tried it? You only feel the air coming out from the edges of the ring! Anyhow, go check out pics of the fun details up close on the next page!

PORTAL 2 is coming!!! I’m a little excited. The trailer is gorgeous (check it out on the next page), and looks incredibly fun! Valve’s Portal was not only stunning visually, but conceptually innovative (part FPS part puzzle game), gave us “the cake is a lie”, and Still Alive still gets stuck in my head… So, can they do it again? Take it further? We’ll find out soon… but how awesome is the trailer? See the trailer and more pics on the next page!

Amazing Bigfoot solo show, Ominous Compositions from the Magic Mountains at Hurley’s )( Space in Costa Mesa opened tonight. Wow. The mural, the smoking heads that greet you, the garage door mouth of a huge bigfoot… such amazing installations! And the wood pieces, where he manages to bring bigfoots out of the wood grain ~ mesmerizing! So many beautiful pieces by BIGFOOT who has been all over the skate, art, toy world the last decade ~ really fun to see it all up close and larger than life! As StrangeCo says, “his work depicts the conflict between respect for nature (held by the Bigfoot race) and the destructive agenda of humans.” Fun detail to look for? Jason Maloney, Hurley’s resident artist and friend of Bigfoot, even has a little snake snuck into the mural! See LOTS of pics of the show on the next page… and the gorgeous sunset too!
p.s.
you can also check out a video with him interviewed by Maloney for Hurley here

Quench your thirst with this luscious roundup from Liqurious. To find out more about each delectable post, click on its individual image.
This could easily be a post about amazing photographs of seemingly endless dinner tables trailing off into breathtakingly magnificent landscapes… in fact, i have a hard time just getting past the images you’ll see on the next page enough to tell you why, beyond the table imagery, Outstanding In The Field is SO spectacular! (Quick side note: How fun is their LOGO?) The main image above is at County Line Harvest, Petaluma, CA ~ the swing just makes me smile.
Ok, but moving beyond the beautiful images of endless tables… (You can see plenty more of that on the next page too!) A friend of mine was telling me about these a few months back, but i had forgotten the name, and just discovered the website tonight! Outstanding In The Field hosts incredible farm dinners, bringing together farmers, celebrated chefs, and eager diners alike. From humble beginnings of “farmers dinners” in Santa Cruz hosted by chef and artist (whose work you definitely know if you’re reading this!), Jim Denevan in the summer of 1998… which coupled with his brother, Bill, a “pioneering organic grower in California was one of those farmers that brought his ingredients and his story to the restaurant.”… evolved into dinners on the farm! Now, over a decade later it has grown into a series of traveling around the world hosting Farm Dinner events as well as private events. Are you hooked yet? I’m seriously bummed right now that the remaining Los Angeles dinners are sold out already… perhaps we will need to think about a NOTCOT private dinner? Let’s discuss that more in the comments though… for now ~ go fall in love with the images on the next page!

Half awake, ready to crash, browsing the internet ~ and i felt like i was dreaming when i stumbled upon these oh so lovely images over at Materialiste ~ Fashion illustrator, Kareem Iliya, shows off the “Dandy Ball” a la Perrier Jouët, in a gorgeous pink and green silhouetted look ~ with stunning champagne botles in every image, and their signature flowers glowing radiantly across the woman’s dress and the man’s boutonnière. As Materialiste describes so eloquently - “The ball is brought to life thanks to the esteemed fashion illustrator Kareem Iliya, who depicts, with her usual ephemeral style, a meeting between a couple of high society champagne-lovers.” Also a very dreamworthy image to fall asleep to… the muse relaxing in her bath, sipping an elegant glass of Perrier Jouët… see them all on the next page!
p.s.
They are all so stunning ~ i wish they were available as prints!
