Miwa Koizumi’s PET Project. “I love the idea of using liquid containers to make water animals. Contained/containing, trash/non-trash, like the jellyfish or anemone: Living/non-living. And i wanted some pets…” PET (polyethelyene terephthalate) - San Pellegrino, Evian and Poland Spring plastic water bottles. Do these get to join the Water List?
Found Koizumi’s PET Project over at Spring Design & Art in Dumbo, brooklyn, which felt like my equivalent of a candy store. SO many designs i have obsessed about on NOTCOT were there to touch and drool over in real life! From the flat diamond acrylic/gold/cilver rings, to the gun shaped vases, to the jimmyjane “fuck design”’ vibrators, and the balloon lamps - i literally found myself spinning around in what certainly had a Museum Store kind of feel, only more Store with a Museum side to it… You can see my picture of her piece below.

I have a thing for vintage Scandinavian furniture, there is something inspiring in those curves and wood. So when Baxter & Liebchen in Dumbo had their showroom open during the arts festival, i had to take pictures to share with you. Their walls of lamps and chairs and mirrors are breathtaking and sparking ideas left and right as i stare at them.

This is a first for me, i’m somewhere in the air about an hours flight west of Kansas City, can’t sleep anymore, so popped the laptop open and noticed that the Fitzsu Playsam GrandPrix page is still open… so since i wanted to post about it when i got home, so, why not now? So just pulled images from that one page to create the collage above!
Playsam is a classic Swedish company, creating some of the sleekest minimalistic toy cars i’ve ever laid eyes on, with their perfect balance of wood and gloss paint, there isn’t one that doesn’t fit in as well on an executive’s desk, as rolling across a child’s playroom. Well step that up a notch, and let over 33 designers have their way with this design classic - and you have the Fitzsu Grand Prix. Everyone from Karim Rashid, James IRvine, Michel Graves, Scott Henderson, + Yves Behar to Touma, Mark Mothersbaugh, Tarina Tarantino, and Viktor Schreckengost to name a few. FitzsuGrandPrix an LA event on October 19, 2006 where the finished one-of-a-kind wooden toys will be auctioned off to benefit the World Childhood Foundation. (via SwissMiss)

This redefines my view of a starving artist… his work is all made of TOAST. It was mind-blowingly beautiful, yet you know that at any moment, pigeons that sneak in could destroy days/weeks of work when they invite their friends over for a feast. Came across the work of Rodrigo Bruna at the 10th Annual Dumbo Art Under The Bridge Festival yesterday over in Brooklyn. Lots of fun toasty pics below.

I hope you’ll forgive me for breaking my own random tradition of the .org roundups on Thursdays, this whole time zone hopping tradeshow buzzing thing has me a bit thrown off - so in only semi breaking the norm - check out my favorite row from this week - and go get lost in NOTCOT.org and find your own favorites! Because there really was so much amazing design inspiration, i don’t think anything i pick can really do it justice.
I have new found respect for booth babes. How do they stand that long in heels? Really. Even in flats. Standing in general. Spewing happiness to press and consumers alike? Seriously. Wow. And it’s only been one day… I’ve never really been on this side of a trade show before - craziness. Haven’t stopped since i got on that plane at 6am in LA, which feels like days ago.
So here is my round up - unedited pictures thrown together below to give you the most honest feel of what Digital Life seems to have to offer (unless you’re a diehard gamer, then you should just come for yourself and sit and play game after game - or sing karaoke on a few stages). So i’m here with ThisNext - people are obsessing about the Shawnimals’ Wee Ninjas we’re raffling away with a bunch of other top recommended picks… then other show worthy mentions (pics below) are Blurb, Mimobots! (which we’ve already loved for so long, but finally met them in person), Palm’s Treo 680, Namco’s old school gone mobile, Sony’s Mylo and ebook, and the etchamac.

Remember WindowZoo (old post here)? Those fun bird silhouettes that are being set free around the world then photographed and and flickr’d and mapped? Well it took over a month, but some finally flew over here from Switzerland… so check out the images and packaging below. Since they JUST arrived, i have not yet decided where to free my mini flock of hummingbirds (one landed on my powerbook and looks like its about to be eaten by the apple), two flamingos, and two eagles(?)… ideas? The image above is a fun postcard that was included… mesmerizing graphic.

Skyn Iceland’s Cool Detox Mask has so much going for it i had to take a few pictures to share the great packaging/process. The idea is interesting in that the cloth mask comes in “tablet” (read: compacted cloth discs) ~ and you break open a ampule of the mask liquid, and pour/squirt it on the tablet till it soaks up the whole thing. Then *poof* you have a cloth mask - ready to destress your skin for a nice 20 minute intensive facial. (and with all the stress of the last few days ~ i must admit, it works well.) More pictures of the fun packaging and process below.

Amenity Home we’ve been seeing around with some gorgeous bedding (like this duvet cover) for some time now… but how sweet are these new bags they have? The pyramid bag might have me hooked… those handles and prints are just so fun!

Digital Life is in NY Oct 12-15… So just a quickie heads up, if i’m spotty on posting later this week, it might be because i’m lost in NY, or swamped at Digital Life… ThisNext is going to be in the Innovator section ~ so feel free to come find me, check out the booth, and try and win some goodies. Otherwise, hoping to get some shopping/wandering in over the weekend, so, NY suggestions anyone?
P.S. update from JoshSpear.com “In the past, tickets have been $15, but this year they’re offering free tickets if you redeem the source code “INSIDER” on the ticket page (where you can also print your own tickets).”
Louis Vuitton’s Monogram Groom line… looks a lot like Tintin ~ a very vintage bellhop styled tintin, and equally adorably styled animations for their flash intro for the line. Noticed it walking past the Century City store window the other day (check out the pictures below). Also more images screenshotted from the flash and photo of the product line. I guess they really are in love with this illustration that looks painted over the old styled monograms?

The Executive Coloring Book - it took me all day to even pick images to show you from this, it is too funny. Some great excerpts… “This is ME. I am an executive. Executives are important. They go to important offices and do important things. Color my underwear important.” — “This is the product my company makes. It is an inter-fibrous friction-fastener.” — “This is our competitor’s product. It is a nail.” — “This is my pill. It is round. It is pink. It makes me not care. Watch me take my round, pink pill… and not care.” Best part is? This is by Marcie Hans, Dennis Altman & Martin A. Cohen way back in 1961.
