posted to C&M… found these at the Dock Downtown, and fell for the octopi, especially the one that squirts. The quality is great, and it’s almost too beautiful to waste on covering gifts… The Anvil Neo Tokyo Giftwrap line is just in time for the holidays, and versatile enough to enamor any recipient, that they may barely notice the gift beneath it. Described by Anvil as “evoking a sophisticated playfulness” with its mix of warm and cool colors, and using Japanese inspired patterns to create that “uplifting, with an airy, lighthearted quality”… these gift wrap sheets will brighten anyone’s day. Additionally, some of these patterns are also available in matching Gift Cards, Gift Bags, and Journals. The designers at Anvil have been winning design awards since 2002 with their ability to “mix traditional Asian motifs with a twist of modernism”, having been shown in Print, HOW, and Creativity, and more.
So… i ran off to SF last weekend… it became more like 5 days or so, and found some super cool stuff… but much of my efforts and free time have gone to writing for Charles and Marie lately… So for people to catch up, and just to archive some stuff i loved that i sent that way, the next few posts are reposts from things i sent over there… =)
Hey remember those great B.I.O (By Invite Only) pins by Stereohype i posted a while back? Well… YOU’RE INVITED! Take a look at their new contest Where you’ll have the chance to design your own buttons, and winners get everything up to having their personal bio displayed on the site, as well as free buttons, tshirts, and more!
It is pretty, but different. It just tickles my fancy this strange very exhausting night. At only 25$ i’m not sure why i haven’t just bought it yet. It is sterling silver on a flat tigereye gem on a sterling chain. Nice one good bumblebee
These Garcia Chairs by Martin Mostboek are sucking me in with their graphic design beauty… there’s just something about griffins… found it on d*s
These are hot. Podstar Nano skins… really changing the personality of your device.
Oh yikes, its been a while… i’ve been focusing efforts towards Charles and Marie lately, so check in there for some great finds (you will probably notice which ones come from me… and as a result Notcot has been a bit slow lately) BUT i’m working on it, and tonight i’m too exhausted to type much copy, but will be image happy… so check out the cool stuff, and click them to read about them!
Pyros Nice silly little amusement found on designboom Bad habbits… and it reminded me of the poor fire down in Tijuana today where a cardboard box factory burned down in these insane santa ana winds today.
This encompasses my feelings on love right now Well and i’m usually more of a silver kind of girl, but with all the dualities in this necklace, i’d wear it happily anyways. Subtle, but edgy. Love it to death tonight… happy Dia De Los Muertos… Anyone have links to a main site for Juliana Eshaya’s other pieces beyond the 28k series at Ron Herman?
“HOW A DESIGNER GROWS: Changes in a Designer’s Self-Worth/Knowledge Over Time” This graph by Consume Daily is priceless. Perhaps wouldn’t be nearly as sad/amusing if it were not so true. So click the pic to start from Junior High and scroll on down to see where one might end up… My chosen cropped image here is the turning point that we all reach at one point, and what we do once we realize which path we are on is key.
Elizabethtown shook my world the other night, was in quite a mood, and with a friend got bored and went to see that flick, unknowing that it begins with such a tragic $1 billion failure by a product designer working for 8 years on one shoe for an Oregon “shoe company” (can we say Nike)… but that aside…
I was excited to recieve an email from Michael diTullo who is a footwear designer for the Brand Jordan division of Nike… Take a look at this new Air Jordan DJ Bag (incase he and you did not know, i have somewhat of an inexplicable obsession for bags)… which he and fellow designer Alan Strak designed for the “Rare Air” line. The bag holds an impressive 45 records as well as a laptop, and has pockets specially designed for needle boxes, headphones, and ipods. Brilliant. Their attention to details is also a major turn on, including the elephant print and micro perf leathers, custom brushed metal hardware, and vintage Jordan logos. Look for this bag in April for $180.
It’s minimalist steel… Miya just emailed me some images of her work, and they appeal to that part of me that has a thing for steel. Something so pure and industrial revolution about it, not sure what it is… her works remind me of Rothko, meets that warhol where he and his friends um had a little fun on that big piece of copper (after what i assume was much drinking?) and managed to have it hanging in the Tate. Anyhow sidetracks aside, take a look at the works of Miya Ando Stanoff, a minimalist metalworker with backgrounds in east asian studies from Berkeley and Yale…
Working solely in two-dimensional metal panels, she is ultimately interested in the study of subtraction to the point of purity, simplicity and refinement.
Yes, another designer love story for tonight. Anna and Time Harrington, attracted to one another’s art and personal style, resulting in some incredible pattern designs printed on a multitude of items from pot holders, to gorgeous sketchbooks, to skateboards! And the site design is worth taking a look at on its own. The way things “fall” and piece together is exquisite. The result is Deadly, Squire.
I fall in love with boys, but… not as hard as i do for certain graphics and ideas. Freudama und Sodele had me with both… i love their graphic design aesthetic, and the idea of locking these great designs as slide film images locked into various materials. Not to mention their story… i love a good artistic love affair…
united by friendship and a similar taste
in art and humour, freudama & sodele started out in summer 1999. they
design and make contemporary jewellery as well as other small objects, drawing from both parties different educational backgrounds. one might see their work as mini art, as lovable oddities or as roguish
They kind of remind me of the stories of Charles and Marie. I know i’m such a sappy romantic when design/travel/big ideas come into play.
