I must admit, i was actively hunting for NotCouture, and came across the Lladro Re-Cyclos Magic Forest Ring and in my excitement posted it quickly over there… only to later discover the full Lladro Re-Cyclos Magical collection. The Magic Forest collection has handmade porcelain rings, necklaces, chokers, earrings, broaches, hairpins and even cuff links. All incredibly beautiful and naturally inspired. Also worth a peek are the Bachhus Bottle Stopper Unicorn and the Gallus Salt and Pepper Shakers… see more images below.
CLICK THE IMAGES, just like the other roundups - top row women, bottom row men. It’s been less than a week since we told you about NotCouture and its certainly been taking on a style of its own! As you can see, we’ve been getting some GREAT submissions for both men and women, although mostly women as you can expect… so guys! help us out! We’re going to keep beta testing it for a little while, but please feel free to contribute your submissions!
Next time your kid is sitting bored staring down and twisting at the edge of their shirt impatiently, why not have them look adorable in these silhouette tees and have them learn their alphabets and to read? Smart Tees by Wire and Twine print the alphabet and the name of what is on the tee upside down near the hem of the shirt just where kids can read them right side up. Adorable Dinosaur, Cow, Fairy, Train shirts… and the pic below looks like it just might be hand screened by kids for kids!
I don’t usually wear jewelry, but when I do I like for it to be something pretty unique and interesting. At the moment I’m loving the jewelry by British designer Emma Franklin. It’s dark and has kind of an occult feel to it. I imagine the person wearing this jewelry to be sitting by the giant fireplace in their dark, burgundy-hued library/study, flipping through an old leather-bound book, and occasionally staring out the window, deep in thought… uh, that’s not weird, is it?
Anyway… thanks to “canadian-in-swedish-clothing” for bringing this to our attention on Notcouture. Some more favorites after the jump!
The Discover interface of Burst Labs is mesmerizingly brilliant ~ and there’s a melody for every mood you could possibly feel or imagine, and truly one of the most refreshing flashy user experiences i’ve encountered recently. Burst Labs is the latest brainchild of The Burst Collective: which Compose + Produces Music, Licenses Music, Records Music, and now gives you an incredible multi sensory experience to browse this ambient digital music space. Odds are you’ve already heard their music and didn’t even realize it… (the list of shows has too many that i’m sure you know to even figure out which to tell you about). So the next project i do that needs a soundtrack, sound clip, or if i were to play some music here on NOTCOT, i’ll definitely be looking at Burst Labs.
To me the word Webble first looked a lot like Plaskool Weeble toys that don’t fall over… but i guess in a way this new Webble makes YOU into that those in a way, as you sit and wobble to and fro in your desk chair. There are two models. but i’m dying to give this Webble Air a try, because the amount i sit and work in my Think chair, its nice to move your feet a bit while thinking… is this the latest innovation in footrest technology? would it be good for airplanes too? It is launching June 11th at NeoCon 2007 in Chicago. Spotted this over at MocoLoco.
Ever go to a site that leaves you wishing there were more hours in the day just so you could spend more time on it? want2bsquare.com is doing that for me right now. It’s a site for the Toyota Scion xB which plays with the idea of turning all things boxy. They present you with a few different worlds to explore, and my favorite is Screen City. There’s so much to look at and play with (videos and mini games), and I’ve barely even scratched the surface!
For one day only ~ I’m in like with you gave us an invite code (NOTC) for any of you to join their exclusive beta of this hot new “online flirting site”. And to be honest, you don’t have to go there to flirt, you can go and play games - get to know people - explore their innovative UI… after all this site is going to change the you envision social sites, and the user experience will blow you away, not to mention they are only in the first stages of it. This site has been hyped throughout the internet the last month or so, and i’ve been playing with it quite a bit (i even started a game for you to come join me and test things out).
Lost? I’m in like with you has been introduced as an “online flirting site”: with their own monetary system (points: you start with 500, and you earn more as you do simple things like login, answer questions, play games - like WoW or SL) and the interaction between users is through games ~ simple questions and challenges you present, and people bid points to play and give you quick little responses. You can wink at a user to encourage them… and at the end of the game you can pick the winner, allowing you to message them through the internal messaging or im, or even sms or call them, without divulging the phone number on either side! (Nice touch to maintain privacy). Although this is starting out with the flirting and game playing, there is a lot of potential here, and this just may become the next social site you use to browse your rss feeds, chat with friends, the usual… and then some. More screenshots below.
Apparently its mannequin hunting season. At least over at Attus Apparel, where they have just launched a limited edition series of 4 (one in each size) polos that have been Shot Up (complete with documentation of the shootings in both photo and video form). And silly as it sounds, i fully understand their thinking here… people buy cut up, distressed, destroyed jeans, tees, jackets, etc… why not polos? And with the all the murder porn on TV constantly (CSI, CSI: every other city, Law&Order and all the many spin offs)… maybe this has a chance? Either way its intriguingly hilarious from an artistic and cultural standpoint. More imagery and video from the shoot below.
While in NY, i ran into Mike Simonian of SF based design duo Mike and Maaike at their great ICFF booth (some of my pics from that below). If they sound familiar its probably because their brilliant Juxtaposed: Religion bookshelf spread across the design sites like wildfire not all that long ago ~ and he led the design efforts of Astro Studios which led to the XBOX 360.
There are pieces you need to try in person (vs indulging on virtual design porn) ~ and this Windowseat Lounge is certainly one of them. Lets just say every tiny apt with more than one person needs one of these for that little piece of personal space. When i sat and talked to people in it, it felt like i was in my own sound proof room. Perhaps these would be perfect for that moment of zen while in a crazy club? Or at ICFF? Full upholstery over a foam-padded rigid molded frame on a swiveling steel base.
Chicken Tika pins and finger puppets can’t help but bring a smile to your face (and everyone that sees them). Something so basic in the design, yet so cheeky about those expressions.
YES - you can text my shirt. There are social networks online - then there is good old fashioned face to face networking. And then there is everything in between… latest comes from Textmarks + Revl Industries - the fashion house that brings you Headline Shirts, Gytha Mander, Revl - there are now Reactees… combining the genius of your tshirt as your billboard and text messaging. Someone can now stand right in front of you and get a message from your shirt via text - and you don’t have to say a thing.
Ok, but in all seriousness ~ imagine the possibilities… at a club, conference, televised sports game… you can leave notes to strangers (you can textmessage and update the automated response at anytime) and future friends. You can give people a way to contact you without knowing your phone number, and you can call/text them back once they request the Reactee shirt’s automated message.
I stopped by the Revl Industries HQ earlier today to pick up my shirt you see above ~ and conceptually it’s fascinating… for a mere 20$ you basically get a magic code people can text and get a message from you (yes you could update this like you do twitter) AND a shirt. You could even print this code on business cards, put it on away messages,… get creative. Additionally these guys know quality and are as anal as we are about making things look gorgeous (and they are also sticklers for comfort and as eco friendly as possible)… more below! and images of their studio.
Shhhhh. This is still kind of a secret, but we need your help. So, NOTCOT.org you see our love of all things design/tech/gorgeous… and TasteSpotting feeds our addiction (because, we all need to eat! and no reason for it not to look delicious)… naturally our other obsession that didn’t always fit perfectly in the other two are for our fashion/beauty indulgences. And we have quite a few!
…. so here’s NOTCouture. And we need your help - we’re working through some bugs (as in trying to find and squash them), we’re working through the style and feel we want there (so far its all stuff we’re loving and wanting), and i guess i’m just nervous about fully launching it yet… so just sharing with readers first! Love to hear your thoughts… and you can credit the gorgeous design to Shade Elaine, this one’s all her! [oh, and it functions just like the others… but not help/guidelines/etc up yet]
Palm Foleo just announced… basically a streamlined laptop ideal for wifi usage on the go, or sucking internet and email over from your treo. It’s got my gadget sense tingling… i think i need one. Even though i did switch from treo to blackberry pearl and the iphone is coming out soon. GAH. Can we say technology identity crisis, so many to crave, so little time to adopt them all properly? Anyhow, the images of the Foleo (ugh, on the spelling) are definitely drool worthy, especially if the black rippled coating is that slightly rubbery feeling finish. More details below…
Cow in a Box… how DO they get that moo in there? These have been around since my childhood, and are nearly extinct if nearly fruitless internet searches show that only one manufacturer seems to be left. So when i wandered into Stumasa today, i had to buy a few… and sacrificed one to be dissected and shared with you all… step by step walk through and video below! And no, discovering the simplicity of this old school toy’s innards does not make it any less fun, and its still much better than its technologically driven counterparts. And for under 5$, who wouldn’t want one on their desks.
